Hookah Matata

Saturday night a few of my friends and I went to one of the hookah bars in town called Hookah Matata. I've been to Cozy Hookah and Cigar bar before and was hoping for a similar experience while at Hookah Matata. My group of friends walked in and we were greeted by the bouncer and he took our I.D's and we went to the large room in the back. This place was small, a little too small for my taste. On either side of the room there were three or four couches with a table in front of them as well as the room in the back. There were no painting on the wall or anything to make it stand out in any way. There was large speaker in the room where we were sitting playing music which was nice at first but then became monotonous when you had to speak pretty loudly to converse with the person across from you. I will say this, even though this place was small it seemed well ventilated. I didn't leave with an overpowering smell of hookah smoke. When we sat down we ordered our Hookah and it came to our table very quickly. Being someone that doesn't smoke on the regular or at all for that matter I found the Hookah we smoked to be very smooth and not hard to handle at all. Also there was a large variety of flavors to choose. I did notice something on the menu called Ice Hookah which seemed intriguing but we didn't get that. The hookah bar isn't just for smoking, you can order food and different drinks like tea, water and juices. My group and I didn't spend much time at Hookah Matata, only about an hour because of other plans we had. Although I had a favorable experience at this particular Hookah bar I would prefer Cozy. For me personally I like the environment there more so than Matata, but if you are under the age of 21 either lounge is a great place to go on a weekend to hear good music and hang out with friends.

4th Annual Celtic Crawl

This weekend in West Chester was the 4th Annual Celtic Crawl. It was quite possibly the craziest thing I have ever experienced. Hoards of people just go from bar to bar all afternoon and evening. This year we went to Barnaybs, Kildares, Landmark, Rams Head and Alibis. At every location there were different drink specials but the catch was that you only had an hour at each bar after Barnabys so if you didn't get there before the rest of the crowd you were going to have a hard time trying to get a drink. For it being my first time I would say that the drink specials were ok and were reasonably priced. There wasn't a variety of specials at Landmark or Rams Head but wild and fun environment made up for it. I would have to say that my favorite part of the night was at the last bar where they had Irish Car Bombs for 5 dollars and 3 dollar green beers. I ended the night with two free tee shirts and a lot of memories. If you are in the area next year this is a MUST! My friends and I had a blast and would do it again next year. I noticed that no one has commented on my blog thus far and if you are reading it I would appreciate if you left a comment or two. Let me know what you like or don't like. Although it isn't a big incentive I will give a shout out in the title of my next blog post to the first person who leaves a comment. Peace.

Drinks, Dancing and Dinero

I decided to go to Kildares Friday night with a few friends and in this post I'm going to talk about the experience I had that night. First off, it grinds my gears a little knowing that this is the only bar that you have to pay a cover on when the weekend comes. Yes it's only two dollars but you could just as easily walk down the street to Landmark or back to Barnabys where there is no cover charge on the weekends. Why they do this I have no idea. But still my friends and I paid the cover. Usually on a Friday or Saturday night the bar is really crowded but that is to be expected. When I got there at around 11:30pm it wasn't crowded at all. My friends and I were able to get to the bar and order a drink easily. The crowd was a mix of college students and working professionals. In my personal opinion the music situation at Kildares is always a good one. The DJ knew exactly what everyone wanted to hear. Song after song people stayed on the dance floor and clearly were having a good time. I feel like drink prices at Kildares on the weekend are ok when compared to other bars. $4.00 for a mixed drink and $3.00 Coors Lite Bottles on a Friday night. If you are a guy and have been to Kildares before you know what I'm about to say is true. The line for the guys bathroom is always unnecessarily long, and when I say unnecessarily long I mean twice the line for the ladies bathroom. I was standing in line and a girl next to me leaned over and asked why the line was so long, like I mandate the bathroom line or something. Needleless to say I waited in like for about 10 minutes and when you really have to go it seems like forever. One thing I do like about Kildares is that the bouncers there are on top of their game. They are very in the moment and are aware of everything that is going on and making sure everyone there has a good time. Despite the long bathroom line and the two dollar cover charge Kildares is till one of my favorite places to go on the weekend. Out of 10 I would rate it an 8.5. Last time I went out I forgot to take any pictures this time I made sure to take a few. Below are the pictures I took from Friday March 1, 2013.

Bottoms Up

I would be doing an injustice to myself as well as all of you if I didn't speak first and foremost about Barnabys. For those of you how live in and around the surrounding area of West Chester know that Barnabys is usually the first place you go when making your rounds on a Friday or Saturday night. In my opinion this is the best bar/restaurant in West Chester. By day it's a cool restaurant and by night it gets turned upside down into a "nightclub." On the top floor there is dancing and great music, this past Friday night DJ Infamos was the DJ there and did an amazing job of keeping the good music coming, there really is something for everyone. One moment the bar upstairs and dance floor was anything but lively, the next thing I know a stampede of people come through and make Barnabys the place everyone knows it is. Having drink specials like $3 you-call-its, $3 Blue Moons all day and $2.50 Coors Light bottles until midnight is what keeps people coming back every weekend. If you're looking for a place with good music, a live atmosphere, inexpensive drinks and a memorable time come to Barnabys on a Friday night. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Now all you people who aren't 21 years old yet don't think I forgot about you. Next week I plan on talking about one of the two Hookah bars in West Chester and since I have a new app on my phone I can blog in real time for all of you. Until next time.....
